Can't Knock it!
W.I. girls and ladies
We need a team here
To play at the skittles
‘gainst the teams here in Beer
so we're off to the social
that's up Berry Hill
for a beer or a shandy
to take our goodwill!
Though we've many a novice
We're full of fine cheer
We'll accept the challenge
What is there to fear?
The skittles are waiting
Set out by the row
And the rules of the game
We'll just learn as we go!
|
We laugh and we giggle
Bite our nails and we squirm
Our foes they are waiting
And now it's our turn!
Their throws are impressive
We must be on our guard
We're all fingers and thumbs
Oh Dear! It's so hard!
We leap into action
Put up a good fight
Throw balls to the left
And then balls to the right
We swear and we stagger
Till our knuckles are white
Then balls straight down the middle
But the skittles stay upright! |
Some can't see the skittles
Some can't see the scores
Our knees are complaining
Our backs full of sores
The balls are so heavy
They slip from our grasp
How we long for our armchair
With our feet in the hearth!
Whose idea was this faddle?
To come out at night!
Through the rain and the darkness
And the winds that do bite!
Our opponents are experts
They know how to throw
We're weak and we're feeble
But we still have a go! |
Our Muriel's our expert
At a young 91!
She throws the ball gently
Yet gets the job done!
She tickles those skittles
Till they fall over dead
She's knocked the whole nine down!
We must go where she's lead!
We might not have the muscle
For a clattering blow
But we'll tickle those skittles
And give it a go!
We'll practice our skittling
Play the game to our tune
And one day if we're lucky
Take home the wooden spoon!
