We welcomed one visitor, one former member and two potential members to our meeting and hope to see them again. PC Steve Spearritt spoke about his own experiences in the Police Force and about Scams. He also discussed fear of crime and he had the data to show that we have little to worry us in Beer. It is a very safe place. Only one member had been a victim of crime in the village, which proved his point. The subject was serious but he presented it in such a light hearted way that had us in the proverbial stitches. I had difficulty in bringing it to a close as we were all having such an entertaining time. Thank you very much Steve.
During the tea break Frances entertained us with two of her latest poems. The one on skittles summed up our joy at taking part despite our lack of skilfulness.
We are looking forward to our monthly lunch, which this time is at the Anchor Hotel on February 25 th and our regular card afternoons, creative writing evening, the first round of the Devon DFWI Quiz, group choir and more skittles matches, who knows one day we might win.
